Message from the Principal: Pride 2022

Happy Pride Month, a reflective and important time of year for LGBTQIA+ students, colleagues, allies and friends.

This year, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Pride in the UK. 50 years since a heavily policed procession made its way through the streets of London on 1st July in 1972. The LGBTQIA+ movement has fought tirelessly for equality and to pave the way for a better, fairer future for all. Progress has been made, but there is still more to do to build the world we want to see in the future.

I am very proud of the diversity of our staff and students, and this year our involvement in #PrideMonth 2022. At West College Scotland we are committed to embedding our habits of inclusivity in the workplace and fostering an environment where colleagues and students can feel safe to bring their whole selves here every day. This year, I’m pleased to say that we will be represented at Glasgow Pride March 2022 on 25th June and it would be great if we can achieve a strong West College Scotland presence there. Whether you are a colleague or student, part of the LGBTQIA+ or an ally your attendance will be felt and appreciated. If you would like to attend please contact Paul Ferguson.

We understand that strength comes from diversity, and if we are to solve the challenges, create a positive environment and continue to build a College in which both staff and students thrive – we must do so together.
