Lecturers’ Strike – Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 April – Some classes may be cancelled

The next in a series of strikes planned by the EIS is due to take place on Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 April.

The strike is part of a National dispute affecting colleges across Scotland. Although the issue that started this dispute is not applicable to West College Scotland, we cannot influence which college staff may choose to participate in the industrial action – but we hope that student learning overall may be disrupted as little as possible.

Your lecturers should inform you on MS Teams if a scheduled online class will not be going ahead.  The College campuses will be open on the strike day and for the campus based classes that are scheduled to take place, you will be informed if you should travel in or not.  The College nurseries will be open as usual.

You will receive your student support payments, as usual, whether your classes are impacted by strike or not on these days.

The EIS has also given notice of additional days of strike action that may take place, although national meetings are continuing and we would hope that further industrial action does not take place.

These dates EIS have scheduled action are:

  • Tuesday 27 April, Wednesday 28 April , Thursday 29 April
  • Tuesday 4 May, Wednesday 5 May, Thursday 6 May
  • Tuesday 11 May, Wednesday 12 May, Thursday 13 May 2021.

The College will provide further updates in relation to any action being taken on these dates nearer the time.

We’ll keep you up to date with any additions or changes to these arrangements via the Student Intranet.  Please also check the College Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts and the Students’ Association Facebook page.
