Refugee Week – 15-21 June 2020
The 15th – 21st of June marks Refugee Awareness Week. This year’s theme is ‘Imagine’. Refugee Week is the UK’s largest festival celebrating the contribution of Refugees and promoting understanding of why people seek Sanctuary.
Through a programme of arts, cultural and educational events alongside media and creative campaigns, Refugee Week brings about positive encounters between communities, helping them to connect and learn from each other, and promoting a culture of welcome.
Refugee Week is an umbrella festival, and anyone can get involved by holding or joining an event or activity. Refugee Week events happen in all kinds of different spaces and range from arts festivals, exhibitions, film screenings and museum tours to football tournaments, public talks and activities in schools.
Some of the events are; The Giant Doll House, Together Workshops which are delivered by PsycheDelight on the Theme of ‘imagine’ and allows people to come together from all ages and backgrounds to have fun, Citizens Songwriters Company are delivering an online song writing programme which allows people to come together via zoom to create music from their own homes. This is but a small selection of the many wonderful events that are taking place of the coming week!
