Class Reps Needed!

What’s involved in being a Class Rep?

As a class rep you play a vital role within the College, by ensuring that the student voice is represented and heard. Your key role is to represent the views of your class group and keep your group fully informed of any development or issues that impact upon them during their time at college. This is done through curriculum meetings at the end of each block.

Is there training available?

Training is available at various points throughout the academic year. There is usually training available in weeks 5 and 6, and mop-up sessions may be available before the first SRC meeting, as well as further training in February to primarily accommodate January starts.

Why are Class Reps important?

The feedback from Class Reps is invaluable in providing the College with the information they need to ensure that standards of excellence are maintained and any requirement for improvement is acted upon to ensure the Student Journey and Learning experience at West College Scotland is the very best it can be.

What are the benefits of being a Class Rep?

Make a difference – Being a Class Rep allows you to get actively involved in the decisions made about your education. It is a great way of increasing the quality and standards within the college and can benefit you, your peers and future students.

Transferable Skills – There are countless skills you can develop as a Rep such as: negotiation, diplomacy, problem solving and communications skills, both in your training and in your role. These are skills that can benefit your studies, personal life and in your future career.

Employability – Prospective employers want to see more than just a qualification and often look for those with the types of skills above. If you can show you have done something outside of your course then this will prove you can juggle different responsibilities.

How do I become a Class Rep?

You can become a Rep by nominating yourself for the role. If more than one person wishes to be Class Rep, each candidate should give a small speech about why they should be elected and allow the class then to vote for the candidate of their choice. Please note, the Students’ Association {SA} always recommend that each class nominates 2 Class Reps, so that there is a backup if one is not available.
